INCREASING PERFORMANCE AND ENERGY EFFICENCY OF A MACHINE TOOL THROUGH HYDROSTATIC LINEAR GUIDEWAYS WITH SINGLE DIGIT MICROMETRE FLUID FILM THICKNESS

Ever increasing requirements to machine tool performance lead a shift from regular roller bearing towards hydrostatic guideways. These have many advantageous properties, such as non-existent stick and slip, nearly no wear, while dampening stiffness. Compared traditional guideways, constant energy demand, resulting pump losses. The losses are composed out of the pressure flow rate fluid. flowrate can be influenced with third power via fluid film thickness. For this, novel micro gap design is proposed tested. static dynamic stiffness consumption analysed compared.
